1. Hi Jan, thank you for agreeing to do the interview. Tell us about Trunkrs, the idea that got it all started and the amazing team behind it.
Sure thing! About two years ago I was talking to my co-founder Dimitri Balai about the rigid structure of parcel delivery companies. We agreed on the need for a more flexible and friendly type of delivery, especially for the E-commerce orders. So we started working on solving this problem. How would you redesign an operational excellence business into a customer centred solution, without incurring more costs? We were so excited when we found the answer!
Now, we are working on the development of the service with a team of 7 enthusiastic people. And I can honestly say: They are the best team I have ever worked with! I love their power and drive, as well as the full dedication to building something we all believe in!
2. What problems are you trying to solve? How does Trunkrs exactly work and why is it a product-market fit?
We work for webshops and deliver their shipments the same day. Until now, most of them have seen the delivery of their parcels as a cost. But this as-cheap-as-possible delivery causes questions and complaints for the webshop. Now, many of them started to notice the value of an awesome delivery experience. The larger webshops take the lead and the others will follow. For example, Zalando is already working with our services. They were so happy with it, they asked us to provide the service in Germany as well! Other webshops are starting to follow their example.
3. How much growth potential do you see for Trunkrs and what type of investors are you looking to attract?
The growth potential is huge. Last year, in the Netherlands alone, 200 million parcels were sent. But as I mentioned before, we are already active in Germany too. A recent report shows that the needs of consumers in this field are very similar in various countries. However, in many European countries, these needs are not even close to being fulfilled. And this means huge opportunities for Trunkrs in the near future.
We expect to grow to over €20 million in revenue on a yearly basis in 5 years time. The first step will be to focus on Germany and the Netherlands. From there, we will enter other European markets. Investors that can help us accelerate growth in the Netherlands or Germany are therefore very welcome to join the team, as well as investors who could help us with the next steps in our internationalization.
4. Why did you choose Leapfunder as your online funding platform and what do you expect from the round?
We have chosen Leapfunder because of the broad base of serious investors already attached to the platform. This has proven to be valuable, as we have already reached our target. However, we still have space for other investors that share our vision of a friendly and flexible delivery of online orders! The better our financial position is, the more we can grow!
5. What are your plans for the upcoming months? Tell us about your go-to-market strategy and the plan to acquire customers.
First, we predict a substantial increase in the business that we are doing with our current customers. We are working hard on making this happen. We also have a well-filled sales pipeline. To accelerate our growth further, we have recently increased our sales power with a Sales Manager, who will work beside me, to win over new customers. We keep focusing on the top 200 largest webshops in the Netherlands for the coming period, as they are the most eager to use new services, in order to improve their relations with the consumers. At the same time, we are starting up sales activities in Germany – the first new customers are already in sight! Our Leapfunder round is active so we could make all of this happen!
